Shape Key Finder — Search Japanese shape keys in English, click the face to find keys [VRChat / Unity] (Free version available)

Shape Key Finder is a Unity editor extension that helps you find the shape key you want on your avatar — even when the names are in Japanese.

No avatar models are included (tool only).

What it does

• Search shape keys in English or Japanese (blink, smile, mouth, まばたき...). Japanese names show an English hint, like "まばたき (blink)" or "にっこり (smile)".
• Filter by part: eyes, brows, mouth, cheeks, nose, ears, face, body.
• Move keys with sliders. A "Reset all to 0" button sets every key back to 0. Ctrl+Z works.
• Full version: click a spot on the face in the Scene view to list the keys that move that spot, most movement first.
• Full version: save the current face (all keys that are not 0) as an Animation Clip.

Free vs Full

• Free: search, English hints, part filter and sliders.
• Full: plus clicking the face to find keys, and saving the face as an Animation Clip.

Importing the Full version over the Free version replaces it.

Carefully tested before release

Made by Kotokoto Lab, an independent creator. Tested on 3 popular free avatars with face shape keys (53, 262 and 446 keys): searching "blink" and "smile" in English found keys on all 3, and clicking the eyes and the mouth listed eye and mouth keys in the top 5. Also tested in a clean project. English hints come from a built-in list of common Japanese shape key words, so some names are not translated, and parts are guessed from the names. Avatars that change the face with textures instead of shape keys have nothing to find.

Requirements

Unity 2022.3 (tested on 2022.3.22f1). Any Skinned Mesh Renderer with shape keys.

How to install

1. Download the .unitypackage (Free or Full) and drag it into the Project window, then click Import.
2. Open Tools > Shape Key Finder. The window has an "English" checkbox at the top.

Terms

OK for personal and commercial use. Do not redistribute or resell the tool. Follow each creator's terms for avatars. Use at your own risk; back up important projects first.
