Ferryman's Obol (冥銭) — Coin Flourish, 7 Tricks [VRChat / Modular Avatar]

The coin of the dead walks across your fingers.

A hand flourish for VRChat avatars. Roll, flip, vanish and multiply a black ancient coin, the fare said to be paid to the ferryman of the dead.

While the coin is out, the gestures of the hand holding it are all you need.

Tricks (gesture)

• Roll | ThumbsUp — Walks across the backs of your fingers, index to pinky, for as long as you hold it.
• Flip | HandGun — Flicked straight up and caught on the back of the hand.
• Vanish | Fist — Disappears in your closed hand. Open it and smoke slips out between your fingers.
• Produce | HandOpen — The vanished coin returns from inside a magic circle.
• Multiply | Victory — Becomes four coins between your fingers.
• Teleport | FingerPoint — Flies to the other hand, bounces, and comes back.
• Orbit | RockNRoll — Tethered by a thread of mana, the coin circles your hand. Small wrist circles make it spin faster and wider; stop your hand and it slowly winds down. While it orbits, Fist catches it and HandOpen throws it with all that momentum.

Features

• The coin follows your finger bones, and its size is set automatically from the thickness of your fingers.
• Orbit is physics-driven. Its plane turns freely, a full 360°, with your wrist.
• The thread's glow, afterimage, sparks and wind sound all intensify with speed.
• Every trick can also be triggered from menu buttons (for people who use gestures for facial expressions).
• 「振り回す：重い」 (Orbit: heavy) switches between a heavy coin that keeps spinning and a light coin that stops quickly.
• One-click install from the Tools menu.

Install

Modular Avatar based. In Unity: Tools → 天禍堂 (Tenkado) → 冥銭 (Ferryman's Obol) → 「選択中のアバターに導入」 (Install to selected avatar), then upload.

The coin, finger markers, effects, sounds, animations and menu are generated at upload. Your original avatar is not modified.

Unity and in-game menu labels are in Japanese; Install_EN.txt gives the English meaning of each one.

Requirements

• VRChat PC only (no Quest / Android)
• Unity 2022.3 / VRChat SDK - Avatars
• Modular Avatar (required, install separately)
• Humanoid avatar with finger bones

Please note

• Uses 11 bits of synced parameters.
• Uses 13 AudioSources. Avatars that already use many may hit the upload limit.
• Orbit uses a Rigidbody (physics). Each viewer computes it on their own screen, so the motion differs slightly from person to person.
• Uses custom shaders. Viewers who block shaders won't see it correctly.
• If you use gestures for facial expressions, turn off 「ジェスチャーで操作」 (Gesture control) in the menu.
